Finding beauty in a vocation to religious motherhood through practical parenting, creating each day, and building a liturgical home.
Hello, I’m Martha! I’m so happy you are here.
When my first child was born, I was overwhelmed with the joy of motherhood, and I understood without a doubt that it was my primary vocation. Over time I discerned another vocation to the Lay Fraternities of Saint Dominic, and now I walk this twofold life of running a home and following a religious rule. I have found that the two go seamlessly hand-in-hand.
I remember hours of searching for help while nursing at midnight: how do I fold a cloth diaper? Is it normal for a baby to spit up all the time? How long should I wait to baptize my baby? I wanted to build a home where my daughter could thrive, and I wanted that home to be unmistakably Catholic. Now that I have a few kids under my belt, I’m ready to share what I’ve learned and what I hope to learn with other moms—because we are ceaselessly working to cultivate our homes and train our children in the way to Heaven.
I hope that this blog about making life Catholic helps you and me both grow in our faith.
Facts About Me
I grew up in the Twin Cities, and after a few years of bouncing around the East Coast I now live with my husband and three kids in St. Louis, Missouri.
I lie awake at night planning sewing and crafting projects. Only the Rosary can get me to sleep.
I was a science writer for several years and am still excited by science, though I might categorize myself as more of a naturalist—hiking and camping are some of my favorite pastimes. If we go outside together, expect random facts about plants and birds.
I was a finalist at the MN State Speech Meet every year of high school. Rival schools’ competitors knew me as “pink collar girl.” (I only had one suit.)
I was received into the Order of Preachers in the spring of 2018, and I made final profession in the spring of 2023.
